Enroll.
Apply to Foothill.
To take college classes, you must apply to Foothill College. To apply, complete the Open CCC application (Open California Community College) being careful to apply as a dual enrollment student for the quarter you plan to take your first class and to use your student email address (not your parent's email address). A few hours later, you will receive an email from Foothill with your campus wide ID number (CWID).
Next use your CWID to login to the Foothill student portal -- MyPortal -- to view your account. The link to MyPortal is at the top of the Foothill homepage. Important: Save both your Open CCC and MyPortal user ID and password. You will need them to register for classes each quarter.
Determine college placement.
Students can determine their eligibility for Foothill Math and English classes by providing a copy of their latest high school transcript to the Foothill Testing & Assessment Office (Bldg. 8200, Rm. 8212). Transcripts can be dropped off in the Assessment Office or emailed to fhtesting@fhda.edu.
Please consult the College Now! Advisor for placement in foreign language, science, and computing classes. Some courses may have prerequisites. If you feel that you have met the prerequisites for a class with previous coursework or an AP test, please read the following instructions and submit a prerequisite clearance form.
It's important to allow at least one week for placement results, prior to registering for classes.
Get permission for classes.
High school students attending Foothill College must complete a College Now Concurrent Enrollment Form prior to the start of each college quarter. The form must be reviewed and approved by both parents and the CollegeNow! Advisor to make sure students are on track to meet their high school graduation requirements.
Start by reviewing the Foothill College class schedule to find classes that you are interested in taking and that also meet your high school graduation requirements. It is strongly advised that you list at least 10 courses on your form, since all courses may not be open for enrollment.
Submit the completed and signed online form to your CollegeNow! Advisor. Set up an appointment to review your course selection. Once approved, the course permissions will be added to your Foothill account. You will then be able to register for classes. Note: Adding permissions to the Foothill system does not automatically register you for classes; you also need to log in to MyPortal/Student Registration module to add your classes. Remember that you cannot add a class that is not listed on your form; you need to complete another concurrent enrollment form for any additional classes you want to take.
If you are interested in taking classes at DeAnza, please follow these additional steps.
Register for classes.
Once you have completed your college placement and submitted your Concurrent Enrollment Form, you will receive an email from Foothill with a Date to Register. Allow approximately 5 days for the Concurrent Enrollment Form to be processed. CollegeNow! students can start registering for classes online with "New, non-matriculated college students". Refer to Foothill Dates & Deadlines for the specific registration dates.
Get your Foothill student ID.
Go to the Foothill College Welcome Center (room 2016, in the Student Services Bldg. 2000) to get your student ID/Owl Card. Just present your student ID number and an official photo ID (e.g., drivers license, passport, or high school id card & birth certificate).
Buy Books.
Your instructor will provide you with the list of required course materials, or will give you the list on your first day of class. Thanks to the California Zero Textbook Cost initiative, many instructors now choose to use free, online Open Education Resources and will provide you the links.
In some cases, you will still need to purchase books or other course materials (eg., art supplies, lab goggles, e-book subscriptions). College Now! covers the cost of all required course materials. Below our options for how to purchase books and other materials at the Foothill bookstore and charge them to the College Now! account using your CWID. In the case of ebooks, you may have to pay for them and then submit them for reimbursement. Remember all materials charged paid for by the College Now! program must be returned in good condition to the College Now/Middle College office in Rm 2152 at the end of the quarter to avoid being billed.
Bookstore -- Books can be obtained at the Foothill bookstore. Simply present your Foothill student ID card to the cashier and let them know you are a CollegeNow! student so they can charge it to the CollegeNow! account. Note: Notebooks and other basic school supplies are not included.
Books and Ebooks through Foothill Bookstore -- For books and online materials available through the Foothill bookstore, go to the site, enter your CWID, select your required books and proceed to checkout. Then select "SFA" (student financial aid) under payment options, enter your CWID again for account number. The books will then be charged to the CollegeNow! account and your books will be sent to the address listed in your account. Here are a set of slides that will walk you through the steps. Note: You will receive a separate email from Foothill with a code for all ebooks.
Ebooks provided by your Foothill Instructors -- Some instructors will provide you a temporary link to an online textbook that requires you to buy a subscription. Make sure to purchase the subscription to the online text yourself WELL BEFORE the two-week expiration date. Charge the subscription to your credit card and submit the receipt for reimbursement using the Reimbursement Form.
Any other materials or equipment over $100 not available through the Foothill bookstore (e.g., BestBuy, BLICK, Amazon) -- Complete this form to get pre-approval for any other online materials or equipment over $100 (e.g., art supplies, calculator, audio equipment) not available through the Foothill bookstore. Once approved, you can charge the items to your credit card and submit the receipt for reimbursement using the Reimbursement Form.
